A PAEDOPHILE who volunteered as a church youth worker so he could sexually abuse young boys was jailed for 12 years yesterday.
Owen Baxter, 23, who gained the trust of parents through the church, baby-sat the youngsters so he could photograph himself abusing them before posting images online.
Baxter, of Redland, Bristol, had pleaded guilty to 23 charges at the city’s Crown Court, including making more than 8,000 indecent photographs and videos of children and distributing 3,000 images and videos of children via the internet.

Alexa Gonzalez was scribbling a few words on her desk Monday while waiting for her Spanish teacher to pass out homework at Junior High School 190 in Forest Hills she said.”I love my friends Abby and Faith,” the girl wrote, adding the phrases “Lex was here. 2/1/10″ and a smiley face.
But instead of simply cleaning off the doodles after class, Alexa landed in some adult-sized trouble for using her lime-green magic marker. She was led out of school in cuffs and walked to the precinct across
the street, where she was detained for several hours, she and her
mother said.
“I started crying, like, a lot,” said Alexa. “I made two little doodles. … It could be easily erased. To put handcuffs on me is
unnecessary.” Alexa, who had a stellar attendance record, hasn’t been
back to school since, adding, “I just thought I’d get a detention. I
thought maybe I would have to clean the desk.”

A nine-year-old Chinese schoolgirl has become one of the world’s youngest mothers after giving birth to a healthy boy.
The unnamed girl was brought to a hospital in Changchun, which lies in the north-east of the country, when she was eight and a half months pregnant.
Two days later, she gave birth to the 6lb boy by Caesarean section, a Chinese newspaper has reported.
Circumstances surrounding the girl’s pregnancy were unknown, but her parents have sought legal help, the City Evening News reported, as sex with a child under the age of fourteen brings with it an automatic rape conviction.
Despite the young age of the mother, from Songyuan, and the potential for severe complications, it has been reported the mother and her new baby are doing fine.
The baby was delivered at Changchun hospital, in the Jilin province, with nursing staff refusing to comment.

The Pakistani military on Sunday was looking into a local report that the region’s Taliban leader had died, officials said.
State broadcaster PTV reported that Hakimullah Mehsud, the Taliban commander in Pakistan, was wounded in a drone attack this month, and that he died and was buried last week. PTV cited local sources and its correspondent in North Waziristan.
Mehsud has been the target of suspected U.S. drone attacks in Pakistan. The U.S. military routinely offers no comment on reported attacks by the pilotless aircraft.
The Taliban leader’s status came into question following two drone attacks aimed at him this month.
U.S. counterterrorism officials contacted by CNN Sunday could not confirm whether Mehsud is dead or injured.

A new professional basketball league called the All-American Basketball Alliance (AABA) sent out a press release on Sunday saying that it intends to start its inaugural season in June, with teams in 12 U.S. cities. However, the AABA is different from other sports leagues because only players who are “natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league.” AABA commissioner Don “Moose” Lewis insists that he’s not racist, but he just wants to get away from the “street-ball” played by “people of color” and back to “fundamental basketball.” Lewis cited the recent incidents of bad behavior by NBA players, implying that such actions would never happen with white players.
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.” [...]
He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas’ indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans’ dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.
