A template letter that has been pasted into numerous Facebook pages accuses founder ‘Mark Zuckerberg’ and other senior members of Facebook of ‘ignoring the feelings of more than 2.5million Muslims’.

The Muslim community is angry that four extremely popular Islamic pages were removed from the site and the letter warns that unless its demands are met Facebook’s Muslim users will move to an Islamic alternative.

The letter demands not only that the pages are reinstated but that new rules are introduced which make it a violation of Facebook’s terms to post anti-Islamic comments.

And Facebook is given notice that unless the changes are introduced then 2.5 million Muslim users will leave to join madina.com, a social networking site for Muslims.

The letter reads: ‘Although you have attended the world’s best communication skills courses you have been most successful in growing great hatred and hostility between you and Muslims around the world, but seriously this time you have caused an almost unrepairable [sic] damage.’

It also accuses Facebook of ‘irresponsible behavior’ for allowing to host ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day’ pages which sparked controversy for encouraging users to draw portraits of the Prophet.

There is no specific ban on images of Allah or the Prophet Mohammed in the Koran but there is one line which is commonly taken to mean that it is impossible for human hands to recreate his likeness. To attempt to do so would is an insult to Allah, it is believed.

The letter demands that the four deleted pages are reinstated, disrespecting Islamic religious symbols is banned and any Facebook page which does so is disabled.

Madina.com was a social networking site set up specifically for the Muslim community.

It pledges to abide by the ‘highest Islamic principals’ and encourages Muslim unity. Female users are asked not to use pictures of themselves as profile pictures.

According to Facebook the Islamic pages, which included ‘I love Mohammed’ and ‘Quran Lovers’, were taken down because they were being used to ‘spam’ users, which is against the company’s policy.

A spokeswoman said: ‘The pages in question were taken down because they violated our policies about spamming users. These pages were not removed because of content violations.’

So i decided to look it further, apparently 8 other sites got seized as well.

U.S. authorities have shut down several websites for allegedly hosting pirated copies of Hollywood movies and TV shows. News of the seizures came just a week after the Obama administration announced an enforcement plan for dealing with theft of intellectual property.

A Manhattan federal court issued warrants on behalf of the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York that demanded the closure of seven NINE sites: TVshack.net, Ninjavideo.net, Movies-Links.tv, FilesPump.com, Now-Movies.com, PlanetMoviez.com, ThePirateCity.org and ZML.com.

The websites are listed to computers located domestically in Colorado, Florida, Illinois and internationally in the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement, “Criminal copyright infringement occurs on a massive scale over the Internet, and reportedly results in billions of dollars in losses to the U.S. economy. That translates into lost jobs and real hardships for ordinary working people. That’s why we took today’s action. If your business model is movie piracy, your story will not have a happy ending.”

Visitors landing on the aforementioned web pages will now be redirected to a page that notifies them the sites have been seized by the government. However, after the seizures were announced four of the sites appeared to still be working properly.

Bharara believes seizing the websites will have a deterrent effect among people who would watch movies illegally.

Official approval has been given for the creation of a net domain dedicated to pornography.

The board of net overseer Icann gave initial approval for the creation of the .xxx domain at its conference in Brussels.

Icann’s approval will kick off a fast-track process to get the porn-only domain set up.

The decision ends a long campaign by ICM Registry, the backers of .xxx, to win approval.

Icann, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, said the next step would be talks with ICM Registry to ensure that it still had sufficient backing from the adult industry to justify its creation.

Icann oversees the net’s addressing system and demands that new top level domains, such as .biz, must be “sponsored” in that they must serve the needs of a defined community.

ICM has said it has that backing and added that the creation of .xxx will make it easier for filters to block access to sexual material.

During the debate on approval, Icann board members said mistakes had been made in denying approval before now.

The denial was “not consistent with the application of neutral, objective and fair documented policy”.

Some board members said they were personally “uncomfortable” with the decision to approve .xxx but could not block it because ICM had followed Icann’s rules for setting up a new top-level domain.

Initial approval for .xxx was given in 2005 but this was rescinded following protests from politically conservative groups. Icann also said it was worried that it would be asked to police content – a role it was not created for.

In February 2010, a panel of US judges said Icann erred in denying the approval of the domain. Icann accepted that ruling and began a public consulation process on whether the domain should be approved.

I’m already sick of the fact that i get told to like things on other websites that aren’t facebook or related. Imagine being asked to like the image of a man abusing young kids; there’s a facebook “like” icon and a text telling you “Be the first of your friends to like this.” Am i being asked to like the image of kids being abused?

Things are going to get worse now that facebook’s introduced the like button on comments… I tested it actually and below is a screen shot:

The good thing about the new facebook like button is… You get to know when someone is actually stalking you. Unlike before when you can only guess whether somebody likes a status just because you made a comment on it or because they actually do like it.

Dear Facebookers, Now you know who the stalker is, the one that likes your comment whenever you commented on somebody else’s profile. The liked your comment but not the status. Stalkers don’t have to be someone you don’t know, could be your cousin, your step-mum, your ex, neighbor, nosey friend,  or someone who’s just seeking for attention.

Jobs also announced that the new iPhone’s resolution is far superior to any other smartphone screen currently available.

Unveiling the gadget’s so-called ‘retinal display’ of 326 pixels per inch (ppi) Jobs said this was better than the magic number of of 300 ppi.

iPhone 4 also has a much longer battery life, overcoming complaints that earlier versions burn through the power supply too quickly.

Other extras include a gyroscope which, when coupled with the existing accelerometer and compass, gives it six axis motion sensing.

And in a warning to Google, Jobs also announced that Microsoft’s Bing and Yahoo will both now come as search options on the iPhone as well.

iPhone users will also be able to play hugely popular social media game Farmville, which is played by 35million people worldwide via Facebook.

Gizmodo said the new design is sleeker, flatter and squarer than the iPhone 3GS that it will replace.

The arrival of the new iPhone is expected to lead to Apple discontinuing supply of the original 3G version, while the price of the 3GS is expected to come down.

Currently, the UK’s biggest mobile network, Orange, offers a 16GB iPhone 3GS for £189 for those who take out a £25 a month contract for two years. That is a total cost comes to £789.

The same phone can be bought for £450 for those who want a pay as you go deal.

One of the “Raging Grannies” who protested Facebook’s privacy policies in Palo

The Pakistan government blocked access to YouTube today in protest at its ‘sacrilegious’ content.

The move comes just a day after the country blocked Facebook in outrage over a page that encouraged users to submit images of the Prophet Mohammed.

The government is challenging the power of the world wide web in a growing crackdown against sites deemed offensive to the country’s majority Muslim population.

Today access to encyclopaedia site Wikipedia and photo-sharing site Flickr was also restricted. But resourceful internet users simply switched to micro-blogging site Twitter to broadcast their protests against the crackdown to the world.

However, there are fears today that Twitter could become the next target as Pakistani traffic to the site surged.

Avoid simple names or words you can find in a dictionary, even with numbers tacked on the end. Instead, mix upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols. A password should have at least eight characters. One good technique is to insert numbers or symbols in the middle of a word, such as this variant on the word “houses”: hO27usEs!

Leaving Your Full Birth Date in Your Profile

It’s an ideal target for identity thieves, who could use it to obtain more information about you and potentially gain access to your bank or credit card account. If you’ve already entered a birth date, go to your profile page and click on the Info tab, then on Edit Information. Under the Basic Information section, choose to show only the month and day or no birthday at all.

Overlooking Useful Privacy Controls

For almost everything in your Facebook profile, you can limit access to only your friends, friends of friends, or yourself. Restrict access to photos, birth date, religious views, and family information, among other things. You can give only certain people or groups access to items such as photos, or block particular people from seeing them. Consider leaving out contact info, such as phone number and address, since you probably don’t want anyone to have access to that information anyway.

Posting Your Child’s Name in a Caption

Don’t use a child’s name in photo tags or captions. If someone else does, delete it by clicking on Remove Tag. If your child isn’t on Facebook and someone includes his or her name in a caption, ask that person to remove the name.

Mentioning That You’ll Be Away From Home

That’s like putting a “no one’s home” sign on your door. Wait until you get home to tell everyone how awesome your vacation was and be vague about the date of any trip.

Letting Search Engines Find You

To help prevent strangers from accessing your page, go to the Search section of Facebook’s privacy controls and select Only Friends for Facebook search results. Be sure the box for public search results isn’t checked.

Permitting Youngsters to Use Facebook Unsupervised

Facebook limits its members to ages 13 and over, but children younger than that do use it. If you have a young child or teenager on Facebook, the best way to provide oversight is to become one of their online friends. Use your e-mail address as the contact for their account so that you receive their notifications and monitor their activities. “What they think is nothing can actually be pretty serious,” says Charles Pavelites, a supervisory special agent at the Internet Crime Complaint Center. For example, a child who posts the comment “Mom will be home soon, I need to do the dishes” every day at the same time is revealing too much about the parents’ regular comings and goings.

In a press release, Paul Melin, general manager of patent licensing for Nokia, said: “Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in mobile devices. We have taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia’s innovation.”

The move is the latest in a series of lawsuits between the two companies. In October last year, Nokia filed a lawsuit against Apple for patent infringement. Two months later, Apple filed a countersuit, accusing Nokia of infringing on some of its patents. Bruce Sewell, Apple’s general counsel, said: “Other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies, not just by stealing ours.”

Another round of lawsuits followed, from both sides, and the matter remains unresolved.

The new lawsuit comes as Apple announced plans to release the iPad outside the US for the first time. The iPad will be released in Britain on Friday, May 28 and prices start at £429 (What a Rip-Off).

Apple has announced that the starting price in the UK will be £429 for the 16GB model with a wi-fi link to the internet – around 25 per cent more than in America.

The equivalent price for the same device there is around £340.

Apple will charge £499 for the 32GB model and £599 for the 64GB device. Again, these are around £90 more expensive than they are in America.

The U.S. company also said yesterday that the iPad will be available in the UK and some other countries on May 28. It can be pre-ordered from May 10.

Im sure a lot of people are wondering “what next after the Ipad”? and a lot of you are worried about the problems with the current iPad, i.e. not having a camera or flash….

We can all wait for the iBoard, it should be better than earlier inventions. Personally I’m looking forward to getting the iMat
